Eight Sleep Introduces Pod 3: The Latest Generation of Sleep Fitness Technology That Improves Sleep Quality by Up to 32%

MIAMI–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Today Eight Sleep, the world’s first fitness sleep company, introduced the Pod 3, a new version of their award-winning sleep technology. The Pod 3 features a new quad-core CPU as well as upgrades to its sensor system that provides more accurate biometric and health monitoring with twice the number of sensors and 4000x more resolution. The new sensor system achieves 99% heart rate sensing accuracy compared to the clinical reference¹. In addition, clinical data has shown that the technology behind Pod 3 can improve sleep quality index by up to 32%², prolong deep sleep by up to 34%³ and increase heart rate variability (HRV) by up to 19%³. The Pod 3 release is part of Eight Sleep’s journey to transform an ordinary bed into an advanced health platform that powers both recovery and performance.

“From the beginning, we set out to create the world’s best sleep optimization systems, and with the launch of Pod 3, we’re taking a giant leap forward,” he said Matteo Franceschetti, co-founder and CEO of Eight Sleep. “Three years after the launch of the original Pod, it’s rewarding to see how our innovations are improving people’s lives, with clinically proven results that demonstrate improved recovery night after night.”

Thermoregulation technology that improves sleep quality and increases HRV

Wrapping any mattress like a cover, the Pod’s Active Grid layer continues to provide dynamic heating and cooling between 55℉ and 110℉ on each side of the bed. This allows members to maintain a comfortable temperature range during sleep that has been clinically proven to improve sleep quality index, time spent in deep sleep, as well as heart rate variability:

  • Increase deep sleep by up to 34%³: After just one week of sleeping on the mat, individuals experienced an average increase of 10% and a maximum increase of 34% in deep sleep. Individuals who initially had below-average deep sleep time had the greatest increase in deep sleep after using the module. Since deep sleep is essential for several key bodily processes, including learning and memory, exercise recovery, immunity, and metabolism, sleeping on a mat can be very beneficial for people who are trying to get an optimal amount of deep sleep each night.
  • Up to 32% improvement in clinical quality of sleep²: The mat has been shown to improve individuals’ sleep quality by up to 32% using standard clinical measurements. The average mat user also experiences a 34% higher daytime energy score, 23% fewer sleep interruptions, and 44% faster sleep onset compared to baseline before sleeping on the mat.
  • Increase heart rate variability (HRV) by up to 19%³: After a week of sleeping on the mat, users report an average increase in HRV of 6%. One in three Eight Sleep users will see their HRV increase by at least 10%, and one in four users will see an HRV increase of at least 15%. Importantly, subjects with below-average HRV experienced the greatest increase in HRV after sleeping on the mat, with an average increase of 9% and a 19% maximum increase. An increase in HRV indicates better recovery, cardiovascular health and cognitive performance.

While still retaining the award-winning features of the Pod 2 Pro, the new Pod 3 features improved technology and a better user experience with the following enhancements:

A new quad-core processor to increase the Pod’s computing power

A powerful new quad-core processor significantly boosts the processing power in the Pod 3, enabling twice the number of sensors to track key biometrics such as heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, sleep phase and more. With a more robust hardware system, Pod can now locally process more complex data and algorithms that are important for tracking biometrics during sleep. Additionally, the new hardware enables future deep learning-based features that will be delivered to users through frequent cloud updates.

Invisible Sensing design with twice the number of sensors and 4000x greater resolution for sleep and health monitoring

The Pod 3 features a new Invisible Sensing sensor suite design to maximize comfort while providing more accurate measurements with twice the number of sensors and 4000x greater sensor resolution. Building on the superior biometric accuracy of the previous generation³, the Pod 3’s dual sensors enable an additional 20% improvement in heart rate variability accuracy, as well as a maximum heart rate error of less than 1bpm compared to the clinical reference.

Dual-band Wi-Fi chip with 5GHz compatibility for a wider range of connections

A new dual-band Wi-Fi chip in the hub extends compatibility from 2.4GHz networks to 5GHz networks and also improves support for mesh networks. This update increases connection speed and Wi-Fi stability, allowing Pod to find the best balance between long-distance and broadband connectivity, regardless of the user’s home layout.

The Eight Sleep app provides health information and more with 8+

The Pod 3’s powerful features are managed from the Eight Sleep app, which serves as a one-stop dashboard for viewing health and sleep metrics, adjusting sleep preferences, and managing temperature settings. With the optional 8+ membership, users can take their sleep to the next level. 8+ unlocks the full intelligence of the product, built using insights from over 90 million hours of sleep data. Eight Sleep features include:

  • Temperature Autopilot: Autopilot uses AI to adjust the user’s sleep temperature in real time based on their sleep history, past temperature preferences, bedroom temperature, local weather and user feedback.
  • Health and Sleep News: The Sleep Status Report is available daily and includes key health metrics such as heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep time, deep sleep, REM sleep, and breathing rate.
  • Connecting to third-party wearables: Users can connect their favorite third-party fitness devices to the Eight Sleep app to understand how their daily activities affect their sleep. Supported devices include Peloton, Oura, Garmin, Apple Health, Google Health, Fitbit, Trainingpeaks, Polar and Zwift.
  • Behavioral Statistics: 8+ offers powerful sleep and health statistics, based on more than 90 million hours of sleep, and creates personalized recommendations for each user with actionable suggestions to promote positive behavior change.
  • Content designed to help you sleep: 8+ members gain access to a growing library of content including guided breathing, yoga, meditation and more to help users fall asleep faster and wake up energized.

“Pod 3 is the next step for Eight Sleep, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with sleep technology that not only monitors your health, but also improves it. The new sensing and computing hardware in Pod 3 enables the deployment of more complex biometric algorithms and provides our members with the best and most innovative features for regenerative and preventive health. All this was achieved while making the Pod even more comfortable thanks to the new Invisible Sensing design,” he says Dr. David He, Vice President of Research and Development at Eight Sleep.
