Following the leak, PlayStation has confirmed another batch of benefits for PlayStation Plus. The September 2022 PS Plus Essential lineup will include Need for Speed Heat, Toem and Granblue Fantasy: Versus. All three of these games are worth playing, so overall it’s going to be a pretty good month for PlayStation freebies. The new batch of games will be available for pickup from September 6. A reminder that all PS Plus subscribers, regardless of level, can get the PlayStation Plus Essential line every month. Additional games are also available for Extra and Premium members.
Need for Speed Heat is the most famous game of all. It’s the latest entry (sans remasters) in EA’s long-running racing franchise, and a turn in the right direction. The franchise took a bumpy ride throughout the 2010s, but Need for Speed Heat recaptured the pure arcade racing fun the series was known for in its early days. With a great night and day system where you compete in sanctioned events during the day and illegal street races after dark, Need for Speed Heat offers a decent amount of variety that keeps the arcade racing fresh for about 10 hours of running time. Need for Speed Heat scored 7/10 in our review. Need for Speed Heat doesn’t have a PS5 upgrade, but you can play it on the latest PlayStation console thanks to backwards compatibility.
By that is a charming indie that came out just last year. You play as a young photographer in search of a picture of the Toem phenomenon of the same name. If you’re looking for a relaxing game that doesn’t take too much time, Toem is a good choice. The game revolves around solving puzzles by photographing the world around you. The black and white visuals are gorgeous and the gameplay is complemented by a beautiful soundtrack. Only the PS5 version of Toem will be available to pick up in September.
Fighting game fans can take a look Granblue Fantasy: Versus, a 2.5D fighting game developed by Arc System Works. Featuring characters that first appeared in the 2014 Granblue Fantasy mobile game, Versus is a stylish fighter with great mechanics. It also implements RPG systems, which is fitting considering the first Granblue Fantasy game was an RPG. The single player campaign isn’t very exciting, but the basic combat mechanics are great. Granblue Fantasy: Versus got a 7/10 in our review.
If you haven’t already, make sure you pick up the August benefits before they leave PlayStation Plus on September 6th. August’s lineup includes Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, and Little Nightmares.
PlayStation will also add new games to the PS Plus Extra/Premium library next month, including Deathloop, Chicory: A Colorful Tale and Assassin’s Creed Origins.
