Nilou vs Albedo: Which Genshin Impact Character Is Better in Version 3.1?

Genshin Impact players will be able to summon two new characters when the second phase of update 3.1 arrives in a few days. When the new phase begins, fans will be able to summon from featured banners, which will include some powerful 5-star characters.

The new 5-star character Hydro Sword Nilou will make his first appearance during this banner rotation, along with the reprise of the 5-star Geo Sword character Albeda. Both of these characters have unique niches that they fill, and choosing the best of them can be tricky. Genshin Impact players can learn more about Nilou and Albedo here to help them figure out which one is better for their teams.

Genshin Impact 3.1: Should players summon Nilou or Albedo?

Genshin Impact 3.1 is set to begin its second phase soon, bringing two new 5-star characters to the main banner. Both of these characters have very unique kits and drastically different play styles, so choosing between them can be difficult.

Nilou is a 5-star Hydro character who can deal incredible damage with Dendro Element’s Bloom reaction, but her team composition is very limiting. Albedo, on the other hand, is a 5-star Geo character that doesn’t really need a specific team to play, but has a hard time making it as a main unit. Here’s what players need to know about them.

Reasons to pull out Nilou

Nilou is Genshin Impact’s newest 4-star character, and while she’s easy to build due to her reliance on HP% artifacts, her teams can be quite difficult to build. This is due to Nilou relying on Bloom’s reaction, which can only be triggered when Hydro and Dendro combine on a target. With Nilou’s unique passive ability, she can create special Bloom reactions that deal extra damage, hit a larger radius, and deal significantly more damage based on her Max HP.

However, to activate this passive, Nilou’s teams must contain only Dendro and Hydro units. This severely limits her teams, removing options like resist shred from Anemo, shields from characters like Zhongli, Freeze reactions from Cryo, and most importantly, it takes away a large portion of the healers that Nilou would benefit heavily from. This makes Nilou an incredibly situational character that can be very strong with the right teams, but can only really shine within those teams.

Even without using Bloom’s reaction, Nilou can be a useful character due to her ability to create a circle around characters outside of the Hydro field with her elemental skill.

If Genshin Impact players plan on using Dendro’s reactions (especially Bloom’s) in the future, they may want to consider picking up Nilou from this upcoming banner. One of her best teammates will likely be Dendro Archon Nahida, so fans can plan to invite the two to form an incredible team.

Reasons to pull Albedo

Albedo is a rerun banner that will run alongside Nilou’s banner during the Genshin Impact 3.1 update and remains a solid unit overall with some caveats. Albedo can deal a lot of off-field damage and is very easy to build, but there are some important things players should consider before wishing for it.
