Marin launches a new range of Rift Zone alloys – Pinkbike

Press release: Marin

The Marin Rift Zone is made for partying, whatever your jam. Your ideal partner for everything from all-day epics to local shred laps and everything in between. Critically acclaimed since their debut over five years ago, they embody our Made For Fun above all else mantra and are the heart and soul of Marin’s full suspension range.

The Rift Zone alloy models are all-new from the 2023 frame, with more travel, fresh geometry, updated suspension kinematics and refined detailing. In addition, the lineup was matched between the 29” and
Models with 27.5″ wheel size.

And right now, with the new Rifty already winning gold, Marine-sponsored ambassador and all-around awesome human Martha Gill has topped the dual slalom podium at Crankworx Rotorua 2022.

3 Series aluminum frames with new tubes and hardware freshen up the Rift’s overall aesthetic with a shorter seat tube and lower seatpost than previous models. Cable routing entry and exit ports look great and eliminate cable/hose rattling. Cable routing is built into the forging and the bike is zipless. Outer dropouts are now compatible with SRAM’s UDH rear derailleur hanger. The Rift Zone is also a quieter bike with all-new chainstay and seat stay guards with increased coverage to minimize chain chatter. Correct ISCG lugs and threaded BB shells remain.

2023 Marin Rift Zone

The Rift Zone 29” and 27.5” alloy models have travel increased by 10mm in the front and 5mm in the rear, now at 140mm/130mm, putting the bike firmly in the trail category. The Rift Zone 26 and Rift Zone Jr models now have 130mm of travel front and rear.

Both the 29” and 27.5” frames share key geometry with a 65.5° head tube angle and 77° seat tube angles, along with 430mm chainstays. In short, we have fixed the fun meter with these important angle updates. The Rift Zone 26 and Jr see similar updates, with 65.5° HTA and 76° STA, with 425mm chainstays.

Kinematics and shock tuning

The team here at Marin has spent countless hours dialing in the kinematics of the frame to ensure maximum performance in the current upheavals in the market. From there, we worked with engineers at Fox, RockShox, and X-Fusion to fine-tune the tunes to provide the best combination of pedaling efficiency on the climbs and flats while providing bottomless control when the going gets tough. The new Rifty not only has more lift, but also improves the way the ride is used.

One key feature that hasn’t changed is the Rift Zone range with three models 29” and 27.5” and 26” and 24” for young rippers. Now these models have been homogenized between wheel sizes, so colors, specs and prices remain the same across the various 1/2/XR levels, regardless of rolling stock.

Wait, what is that? What’s with this “XR” model? This is the replacement for what was formerly the Rift Zone 3. The new XR is our ‘rider spec’ model, a spicier take on the Rift Zone with some of the best suspension and drivetrain specs available for the money.
